Books to Movies Feb 19, 2014

Many teen books are being adapted into movies this year, like VAMPIRE ACADEMY this past week, or in March with DIVERGENT based on the book series by Veronica Roth.  Haven't read this trilogy of books yet?  If not, be ready for great characters and plenty of suspense.  Read them, see the movie, then join us for the DIVERGENT MOVIE party on March 18th--play games, discuss the stories and get a chance to win the entire set of books.

Other books coming to a theater near you this year:

Maleficent is based the famous Sleeping Beauty story and debuts May 30th.  Angelina Jolie stars as the villanous title character alongside Elle Fanning as Aurora.  And listen to that deliciously dark Lana del Rey song remake of "Once Upon a Dream." Wow.

We've already mentioned on the library blog about The Fault in our Stars premiering June 6th, based on the John Green book.  That poster was enough to grab the tissue box, but how about the trailer?  *sniffles*

The Giver  was the first dystopian book I read, way before The Hunger Games, that changed things for me.  Brenton Thwaites is set to play Jonas, the main character from the book of the same name by Lois Lowry.  The film is set to debut on August 15th.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner is based on the series of books about a group of teens trying to survive in an enclosed environment called "The Glade" and is set for a September release.  There's Internet Movie Database info out but we like the look of the movie Tumblr here too.
