Outreach
Bringing the Library Home
Making a trip to the library is something not everyone can do. When it's not possible to go to the library, invite the library to come to you. New Castle-Henry County Public Library's Outreach Services provides on-location library services to the homebound, senior citizens, day cares, retirement communities, and families with disabled individuals.
Program Services
Outreach services also provides programming such as story times for children, reading and sharing for the older set, and topic-centered programs for assisted living communities.
Looking Back...
We are finally wrapping up winter and unwrapping spring! It seems like it has been a very long winter, but hopefully we have seen the last of it for now. I can almost hear the birds saying, “We came back for this!”
Speaking of birds, I have been hearing them sing for a few weeks now and it is beautiful. Before long the flowers will be blooming, and we will hear the sound of tractors. The coming of spring brings thunderstorms and that is what we will talk about during our program in May... Thunderstorms and how they made us feel when we were young. Did you ever play in the rain and the mud puddles? What did you think when you saw a rainbow? Were you scared when it stormed, what did you do? These are the kinds of things we will talk about in May. In March we talked about the Interurban, I was surprised at the number of people who didn’t know what one was. Sometimes when I do a program it just doesn’t seem like it is interesting. That is what happened with the Interurban program until I visited one of the last facilities. The room was full and in the past there were only ladies who attended… but not that day—there were 3 gentlemen. The stories they told were awesome. They even remembered where they got on the Interurban and how much it cost. So if you are doing something and you don’t think it makes a difference, it usually does.
