New Castle-Henry County Public Library is seeking a part-time reference librarian assistant.  This is a professional position, and requires an LC6 certification or higher.  Some responsibilities include: 

  • Responds to patron requests for information in the library, by telephone, by mail, or other electronic means.
  • Assists patrons in the absence of the reference librarian.
  • Assists patrons in the absence of the genealogy librarian.
  • Assists in locating reference sources and instructs in their use.
  • Assists in assuring accurate library shelving by shelf-reading and re-shelving of materials, as needed.
  • Assists other staff as needed.

 This position requires an individual with a customer service attitude, professionalism, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), and the ability to maintain good relations with staff and the public.  In addition, candidates must have expertise and proficiency with computers and computer-equipment, and must be able to successfully use basic office applications and the Internet, including databases and social networking sites.

 Minimum Requirements: 

 High school diploma required, GED minimum

  • 5 years of library experience or 9 semester hours of library science courses required
  • LC6 Certification (or ability to achieve within 6 months)
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
